The Frontier and Human-centric AI and Robotics Technology for Geriatric Care (AoE) project successfully hosted its first External Advisory Board (EAB) Meeting and Stakeholder Workshop on 20 October 2025 at the Data Technology Hub, bringing together internationally renowned experts, researchers, healthcare professionals, and community stakeholders to review progress and discuss future directions in AI- and robotics-enabled elderly care.

Led by Project Coordinator Prof. Bert Shi, the meeting highlighted the project's mission to improve older adults’ well-being through human-centric AI and robotic technologies. The project combines expertise from medicine, psychology, social sciences, computer science and engineering, with a strong focus on addressing real-world care needs.

During the meeting, research teams presented updates across five research thrusts: Human-Robot Interaction, Trustworthy Generative AI, Robotics and Embodied AI, Sustainability, and Human-Centric Benchmarking. Highlights included socially intelligent robotic systems, trustworthy AI solutions for healthcare applications, robot-guided exercise technologies, sustainable AI models, and new frameworks for evaluating the societal impact of AI and robotics.

A stakeholder workshop followed, providing valuable insights into challenges faced by older adults, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and community service providers. Participants discussed how AI and robotics could enhance care coordination, health monitoring, rehabilitation, social engagement, and caregiver support across different care settings.

The External Advisory Board commended the project’s interdisciplinary approach, stakeholder-centred design philosophy, and strong progress during its first year. Members provided constructive recommendations on safety, trust, technology adoption, and long-term impact, helping to shape the project's next phase of development.

The successful meeting and workshop reinforced the AoE project's commitment to developing innovative, practical, and human-centered technologies that empower older adults and support caregivers, contributing to healthier and more independent aging.
